NATURE & SOCIETY- FACULTY OF HISTORY AND GEOGRAPHY
Along with the cultural disciplines named Mathematics - Vietnamese, Nature & Society discipline for students in grades 1,2,3 and History - Geography for students in grades 4, 5 account for a significant part in children’s learning and acquisition of knowledge.

These subjects are a prerequisite for children in primary school to form concepts and become familiar with the research of scientific disciplines at a general level (Natural and Social Science).

Natural-social science subjects from grade 1 to 3 concentrate in one study topic but raise the level gradually. Grade 1 (1 study period/week), grades 2-3 (2 study periods/week).

Know how to keep children’s body clean, know how to protect eyes and ears; know how to eat, drink and take a rest reasonably; know how to come back home, how to go to classrooms and how to do related works; know how to stay safe at home and on the road.

Learn about musculoskeletal system, digestive organs, then know how to eat well and prevent disease; know the family and household utensils and poisoning prevention at home; know how to conserve the school and how to avoid falls while at school; know how to safely participate in means of transport

Learn about the respiratory system, blood, circulatory activities; learn about family generations; know how to prevent fire at home and not play dangerous games at school, know where they are living with the industrial and agricultural activities; know how to ride a bike safely.

 

 

Learning about the nature

Students get acquainted with the plants and animals such as flower, vegetable, fish, chicken, cat; recognize it is raining and sunny and practice sky observation

Know where trees live; recognize terrestrial and underwater animals; initially learn about the sun, the moon and stars, etc.

Understand more about plants, fruits, birds, animals, etc.; learn about the earth, the solar system, day and night, year and month, seasons, the climate on the Earth

For students in grade 4 and grade 5, natural –social science subjects are learned more and divided into subjects named Science (2 study periods/week), History (1 study period/week), Geography (1 study period/week).

Science subject in grade 4 and grade 5 continues the themes as in grades 1, 2, 3 but at higher level. Contents of the curriculum are presented as follows:

Learn about the human metabolism, the roles of protein, fat, vitamins; eat reasonably; prevent some diseases and obesity; learn about the atmosphere and 3 forms of water; know how to protect and save water

Learn about sex, reproduction from new birth and maturation; say no with drugs; prevent malaria, dengue fever, encephalitis, hepatitis, etc.; prevent HIV/AIDS, abuse, road traffic accidents; learn about rattan, iron, steel, limestone, cement, glass, rubber, chemical solutions.

 

 

 

Learning about the nature

Understand why the winds appear and prevent storms; learn about temperature, sound, lighting; know how to protect eyes; learn about the flora and fauna with the metabolism and the natural food chain.

To be aware of solar energy, fuel energy use, water; join a simple circuit; learn about reproductive organs of the trees; learn about types of birds and animals and their reproduction; know how to protect the forest and environment, etc

History in grade 4: Learning about the Vietnamese Feudal Dynasty

Geography in grade 4: Learning about the production activities of people in the Northern mountainous area, Central Highlands and plains

History in grade 5: Mainly studying the period 1858-1945 and until now

Geography in grade 5: Learning about the natural geography of Vietnam and the natural geography of the continents
